Physical Therapy*

Physical therapy is treatment for conditions or problems that interfere with your daily function. If your problem keeps you from doing your job, caring for yourself, your family or your home, interferes with your sleep, etc. you need physical therapy!.

Some examples of conditions that might need physical therapy:

  • Joint pain such as hip, ankle, shoulder, etc.

  • Neck, upper, and lower back pain (if physical therapy hasn’t worked for these conditions for you in the past, know that I do core differently!)

  • Incontinence/leaking that is interfering with your daily activities

  • Falls due to poor balance

Wellness

Wellness visits are focused on injury prevention and developing a healthy lifestyle. This is for issues that don’t interfere with your function (and I love that you are catching it early!). If you are looking for help with strength, core stability, posture, flexibility, or minor aches and pains, this is for you.

Examples of wellness include:

  • Improving core stability/strength (my core method is different than what you have done before and can be worked into existing exercise programs, or we can create a new program just for you!)

  • Improving posture

  • Making sure those minor aches and pains don’t progress to the point that they are interfering with your daily function

  • Help with starting or trouble shooting a fitness routine

  • Managing menopause symptoms

  • Incontinence/leaking or pelvic pain that is annoying but doesn’t stop you from doing any of your essential functions

  • Therapist assisted mobilization and stretching

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a clinical treatment that utilizes a very small diameter needle placed into painful soft tissue (muscles, tendons, capsules, ligaments, etc). The placement of the needle is based on the patient's unique evaluation findings to directly address each patient's pain and dysfunction. The small needle used in dry needling varies in length depending on where in the body the needle is placed - safety is always the main focus of treatment!

Dry needling can be incorporated as part of a physical therapy or wellness treatment plan or as a stand alone treatment.

Buddy System

friends in a hammock

Friends that leak together, should go to therapy together! Problems with pelvic health (including incontinence/leaking, pain, digestive issues, etc.) are very common, but they are not normal! You don’t have to live with them, but I know the thought of talking to someone about these issues can be intimidating. With the buddy system you can get treatment for your pelvic issues together! Learn the basics about your pelvic floor and get personalized treatments.

With the Buddy System I will ask you each about your symptoms (this part can be done together or separately) and then you will learn the basics of pelvic health together. We will talk about how everything is supposed to function, what issues you have, and basic exercises to stat fixing them!

* Due to Medicare regulations, patients 65 and over cannot be seen for physical therapy. We CAN see you for wellness visits! Click here for more information.

What should I expect during my initial evaluation?

This is my chance to really get to know you!

  • History - I’ll want to know your goals for treatment, when your problem started, what else you have done to work on it, how it has changed, and any other relevant health issues

  • Measurements - Usually after getting your history I will have a pretty good idea of what is going on. Taking measurements and doing special tests will help me get a better picture. We will occasionally re-check these to make sure we are making progress and to help direct your care.

  • Assessment - Based on our measurements and your history, I will let you know what I think is going on and give you suggestions for treatments that may help (see below).

  • Planning - Together we will decide what treatment options are best for you and how frequently you will come in.

What should I expect from a treatment visit?

Some of the available treatment options are:

  • Exercises including stretching, core exercises, breathing exercises, movement re-education, and balance training

  • Manual therapies such as myofascial release, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), assisted stretching, joint mobilization, visceral mobilization

  • Behavior modification to help with everything from pain to incontinence

  • Education I want you to really understand your issue so you can manage it independently in the future
